How To Create Your Own MLM Blog PART 3 – Settings

It doesn’t take much to set up your website but if you follow the steps in this module, you will have the essentials for a search engine friendly website. I covered all these steps in detail in the accompanying video.

Here are the simple and easy steps:

Clean-Up

Your wordpress theme comes loaded with widgets. WordPress Widgets are like plugins, but designed to provide a simple way to arrange the various elements of your sidebar content (known as “widgets”) without having to change any code.

>>>>
I prefer to clean-up the widgets and then add the different widgets that will add great value to my blog.

• Go to Appearance > Widgets.
• Drag the items in the right-hand column to the left under Inactive Widgets

Two other areas to do some clean-up is the Links and the Posts Sections
• Go to Links > Links.
• Check the box to select all > choose “Delete” in the drop down menu > Apply

• Go to Posts > Posts.
• Check the box to select all > choose “Delete” in the drop down menu > Apply

SETTINGS

• Go to Settings > Permalinks.
• Enter %postname% in the ‘Custom Structure’ field and save changes.

• Enter %postname% in the ‘Custom Structure’ field and save changes.

PLUGINS

Click on “Add New” under “plugins” and then do a search to find those plugins and install them:
• All in one SEO
• Easy Privacy Policy
• WP-SpamFree
• Google XML Sitemaps
• Gocodes
• StatPress

Once the installation is completed, you will need to configure them.

CONFIGURING ALL IN ONE SEO

• Go to Settings > All in one SEO
• The first thing to do is to ‘enable’ the plugin.
• Once it’s done, add ‘Home Title’, ‘Home Description’, and ‘Home Keywords’ and save the changes.

The Title and Description are the most important pieces because these fields will determine your CTR (Click through rate)

CTR’s are not only useful for PPC (Pay Per Click), but in organic search results as well. You need to think like the person who is searching the Keyword. What is the person thinking about? What does the person want and need?

The better you can interpret the person’s thinking, the more hits you’ll get to your website. I have used a ton of titles and descriptions in my Websites. I’ve given some examples below:

1) Use a Catchy Title. Mention your Keyword just ONCE in the title. People read your title and then click through to your Website.

2) Follow up your title with a Catchy Description.

Keyword Scam – Does this diet help in reducing weight? Is Keyword by Author Name as good as the claims?

IMPORTANT:
• Use your Keyword once or twice in the Title.
• Use your Keyword once or twice in the description.
• The ‘Home Keywords’ should have three keywords: Keyword, Keyword review, lsi keyword

LSI stands for Latent Semantic Indexing and it means words like the keywords but words that help put the keyword in some sort of context. For example the keyword ‘football boots’ could be surrounded by references to the Adidas Predator which helps give more meaning to the main keyword you’re optimising for.

If you want to find a list of LSI Keywords, use the Google Keyword tool and see what comes up around your chosen keyword.

The better your home title and description, the more visitors you’ll get to your website.

CONFIGURING OTHER PLUGINS
• Go to Settings > Easy Privacy Policy
• Uncheck the ‘Include a credit link’ checkbox
• Click on ‘Create Privacy Policy’ button
• Uncheck the ‘Help promote WP-SpamFree’ checkbox
• Click on ‘Update Options’ button

In the next module I will show you how to set up a theme to make your website convey the look and feel you desire.

  1. Hi Stephane, I tried to follow your steps and finished everything through Plugins, but when I tried to Configure All in One SEO, I couldn’t find that in Settings. So that didn’t get done. How important is that?
